The Vertically Challenged Climbing Club ("VCCC") is committed to protecting the privacy of members or users, using the VCCC services and protecting the personal information we obtain on registration. We comply with the Data Protection Act 1998 in dealing with your personal information.

1. The information we collect and how we use it:

VCCC services operate via a secured shared server. All reasonable steps are taken to ensure the safety of your personal information.

When you register for our service via our website we need to know certain personal information, depending on the service required, such as your email address, mobile telephone number, mobile network, gender, DOB, as well as other personal details required from time to time.

We gather the information to allow us to process your registration, process any information we receive and to allow us to contact you when you receive a message from another member or user and to verify the members identity (for security purposes). The relevant information is then used by us to communicate with you on any matter relating to the conduct of your account and the provision of the service in general.

Your personal details are never disclosed and you are anonymous at all times save that any data collected may be passed to ICSTIS. Data collected from you may be used by ICSTIS for regulatory purposes.

You may, if you wish, enter information about yourself on the profile section of the site. This may include information such as hobbies & interests.

Save as provided above,VCCC will not sell members’ or users’ personal information or pass it on to unrelated third parties. The personal information collected by VCCC may be used, to enhance the services provided, in the following ways:

  • We may use aggregate information and statistics for the purpose of monitoring the usage of our site and services in order to help us develop the site and our services. These statistics will include information that can be used to identify any individual.

A cookie is an alphanumeric identifier which we transfer to your hard drive through your web browser when you visit our website. It enables our own system to recognise you when you visit our website again and improve our service to you. 4. Credit/Debit Card Information

VCCC use Worldpay Plc (a third party payment processing facility), who operate a secure server, to process card payments. VCCC can neither view nor store this information.

5. How we protect your information

The Internet is not a totally secure medium. However we have put in place various security procedures as set out in this policy.

5.1. User passwords are encrypted at source, using a well-known one-way encryption methodology. Passwords are never stored in plain text.

5.2. All VCCC servers are behind firewalls, offering a large degree of protection against unauthorized access, and have in place appropriate anti-intrusion detection and counter-measures.

5.3. All hardware is physically secure. We also keep your information confidential. The internal procedures of VCCC cover the storage, access and disclosure of your information.

By submitting your information you consent to the use of that information as set out in this policy. If we change our privacy policy we will post the changes on this page, and may place notices on other pages of the website, so that you may be aware of the information we collect and how we use it at all times. Continued use of the service will signify that you agree to any such changes. We may transfer the information you provide to Countries outside the European Economic Area.
